Description

This 122 was purchased new here in Portland, Oregon and has been in the area since new.  The original owner, Scotty, traded in his Mercedes on the car and drove it daily until 1985, when he traded it the second owner, Dave, for some original artwork.

Dave kept the car garaged and tried to maintain the car to the same exceptional level Scotty had. It was the nicest unrestored 122 I'd ever seen, until May of 1995, when a drunk driver in a Ford Bronco
rear-ended the car at approximately 40mph.  Everything from the C-pillars back was crumpled; the trunk floor was warped, various welded seams split open, etc.  Because the Bronco had hit at an angle, the tail lights were pulled inward nearly 6 inches, and the rear of the car was bent downward, nearly 4 inches.  I received the car in this state, the only condition being that I could not part it out.

Over the next 2 1/2 years, Bob Moreno at The Works in Eugene, Oregon restored the car in his spare time; and I then used it as my daily driver. Because the car had to be registered as 'reconstructed' and would never be original again, I felt better about changing it.  Very few of the original mechanicals remain.
