Volvo Cars introduced the Volvo V50 at the 2003 Bologna Motor Show as the station wagon version of the Volvo S40 small family car.
The
Volvo V50 is more a 'lifestyle' estate than an outright load-carrier such
as the V70,
however with the rear seats folded, it offers a useful 1307 litres of load
space, a very practical and versatile car, with a load area that is well
thought out and split rear seats that fold quickly and simply. It offers
additional space for carrying stuff that you would normally not be able to
load into a sedan.
Introduced
in 2009, R-Design equipment gives the V50 a sporting,
performance oriented edge, pushing the envelope in the compact sportswagon
class. It's dressed with a unique grille with matte silver surround and
R-Design logo, a sport body kit with colour- coordinated side skirts and
front and rear spoilers, leather seats, aluminium sport pedals, sport gear
knob, R-Design inlays, blue watch dial instrument cluster and sport
steering wheel.
The
cabin looks fantastic, thanks in no small part to the 'floating' centre
console, which is attached to the main part of the dashboard only at the
top and the bottom. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and
the fully adjustable steering wheel helps to ensure there should be a
driving position to suit everyone. Volvo safety features such as Stability
Control and general equipment are impressive, too. It's
a great car to drive, with good but firm ride.
