New Zealand
Is fortunate to have a wide variety of accommodation choices: up-market hotels, exclusive sporting retreats and resorts, country pubs, motels with self-catering facilities, campsites, holiday parks and backpacker hostels. Whatever standard you seek, there is a price and quality to suit. However do note that accommodation is often booked out in popular holiday seasons and it is wise to book ahead for such peak times.

Lodges
Top of the range, outstanding cuisine, excellent accommodations, fabulous country settings amidst the scenic riches of New Zealand, personal hosting with a marvelous sense of style - these are endearing universal characteristics of the Lodges of New Zealand. Share the distinctive style of accommodation, a style equal to the best in the world but with its own New Zealand flavour, and find the ones that suits you. Rates are inclusive of full breakfast, pre-dinner drinks and dinner.
Tariffs: starting from $300, some up market lodges up to $800 a day.


Hotels, Motor Lodges and Motor Inns
Hotels have fully licensed bar and restaurant facilities. Rooms have phone and TV but do not generally have cooking facilities but do provide tea and coffee making facilities and private bathrooms.
Tariffs: starting from $90, with meals may be over $200 per person a day.


Motels
New Zealand Motels are the most popular form of accommodation for travellers. A motel unit is self-contained. It usually has full cooking facilities enabling guests to prepare their own meals and also includes phone, TV and a private bathroom.
Tariffs: starting from $60 up to $250, usually around $80 - $120


Bed & Breakfast, Guest Houses and Farm-Stays
This type of accommodation is available in family homes throughout the country, though sometimes guests may stay in a separate annex or cottage. Guests may sometimes have their own bathroom facilities; or alternatively share with their hosts. Guests may share home-cooked meals with their hosts with breakfast usually included in the tariff and dinner by arrangement at an additional cost. Farm-Stay options often offer chances to participate in farming life. Another Homestay site.
Prices are usually between $60-$120 for two people


Holiday Parks and Camping Grounds (Motorcamps)
Motorcamps provide communal kitchens, toilets, showers and laundries. a variety of accommodation is available such as camping sites, cabins, tourist flats and backpacker style lodges. Tourist Cabins have cooking facilities but require use of communal shower, toilet, and laundry facilities. Tourist Flats do have shower/toilet facilities. Bed linen may be hired or you may provide your own. Many Holiday Parks also have Motel units on site.
Tariffs: Tent site $10, Cabin or on-site caravan $35 , Tourist Flat $60.


Backpackers
There is plenty of budget Backpacker's accommodation available in New Zealand at prices from $15 pp per night
