The most desirable old Volvo... But unfortunately the quality of
this car
didn't meet the Volvo standards, and that was the end of a
unique roadster.
It would take up more than 40 years, before Volvo launched
another
convertible: the C70. This car is from the production year 1957.
Almost the
entire 1957 production was sent to the US, also this car. It's
the 3rd last
made, with chassis 65 out of a total production of 67. I bought
the car from
a Volvo-specialist in Pennsylvania USA. He certainly can be
called a P1900
specialist because he had owned 4 P1900's during the years. All
of them he
exported to Europe again. He bought the car in 1994 from an
American Volvo
dealer, who had the car in his showroom for at least 10 years.
In the 70's
the car was sold to North Carolina, by a Californian collector,
named
William D Albright. In a 1972 issue of "Competition Press
and Autoweek"
there was an article about this collector and his P1900's.
Amazing is the
fact that this Californian collector also had another P1900
together with
this car, that many years later both cars got back together at
another
collector, and that even more years later both cars were
exported by the
same Joe Lazenby of Pennsylvania to Europe. And now both cars
are in Europe.
One in Holland, and mine in Belgium. In the old pics you see
both cars
together. These pics must be from somewhere in the 70's.
